How it works

Format, minify, validate

Formatting adds indentation and line breaks so an API response or a config file becomes readable. Minifying does the opposite - it removes every unnecessary character so the JSON takes as little space as possible. Either way the tool validates it and points to the exact place of an error.

The most common JSON mistakes

A comma after the last item of a list or object, unquoted keys, single quotes instead of double quotes, and comments - all allowed in JavaScript, but not in JSON.

Yes. The JSON is processed in your browser and never reaches a server, so you can format data with tokens or customer details too.

Why sort the keys?

Sorted keys make two JSON documents easy to compare - for example with our text compare tool.

Does it handle large files?

Yes, a few megabytes are no problem - the only limit is your browser's memory.
